RSV Babies Infants Children VirusRSV or Respiratory Syncytial Virus is a common, very contagious virus that can cause infection in the lungs of children. The disease usually infects babies, by age 2, but can be found affecting children up to 5 years old. It can also affect adults and older children, but the symptoms are usually mild when that occurs. 

Symptoms of RSV

  • Low-grade fever
  • Dry cough
  • Sore throat
  • Mild headache
  • Congested/Runny nose

In severe cases, RSV can spread to the lower lungs causing bronchitis or pneumonia. Short, shallow, rapid breathing, cough, lack of appetite, fatigue and fussiness could be signs of severe RSV. Medical attention is advised in these cases. The clinic the only walk-in, urgent care in southeast Louisiana that can treat newborns as well as older children.
