TB Tuberculosis Respiratory Lung InfectionTB or Tuberculosis is a serious bacterial infection that can compromise your lungs. Two kinds of tests are used to detect TB  A positive TB skin test (PPD test) or TB blood test (IGRA test) to detect the bacteria. The clinic has the ability to evaluate and test for TB, with both tests, as well as further testing to confirm or rule out the disease, such as a chest x-ray or sputum sample. Many nursing and medical schools as well as home health agencies require a TB test.

Some people are infected with TB, but are asymptomatic. This is called latent TB. An active TB infection can make you feel very sick and spread the disease to other people. Without treatment, this condition can cause serious illness or even, death.

Symptoms of an active TB infection

  • Cough (3 weeks or more)
  • Coughing up blood
  • Chest pain
  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Night sweats
  • Unexplained weight loss

The clinic usually does a TB skin test first, which require two visits to the clinic. A simple, quick test is done in office to your forearm. After 48-72 hours, you can return to the facility where our doctors will check the site for a reaction such as redness or swelling. If your tests show a possible TB infection, further tests may be ordered to confirm a diagnosis. If not treated, TB can be deadly, but when treated, it can be cured.
